History FesslerUSA
traces its roots to January of 1900, when Walter Meck, grandfather to the
current CEO, left the family farm to begin knitting fabric and sewing garments
in the small Pennsylvania Dutch river port of Schuylkill Haven. Since
then, during 106 years of continuous operation as a family-owned
business, FesslerUSA evolved from its humble beginnings as
a cotton underwear manufacturer to a world-class producer
of fashion tees and design support services to the fashion
industry.
The FesslerUSA journey through two world wars, a depression
and two recessions was challenging, but the recession following
the conflict in Korea proved too much for Walter’s
son, Charles, who lost the business almost 50 years ago to
the Fessler family. His siblings followed different
paths in different industries, but the paths all led home,
and in 1994, the Meck family regained control of what is
now FesslerUSA.
Welcomed back to the rag trade by NAFTA, GATT and CAFTA,
the Meck family and FesslerUSA embarked on a new strategy,
investing in restructuring FesslerUSA from the bottom up. With
a commitment to Made-in-the-USA. To private label manufacturing. To
state-of-the-art knitting. To Gerber computer design
and cutting equipment. To a highly-skilled management
team. And to developing a first-class design support
services department.
The results have been remarkable. Recognized as
an industry leader in private label production and design services
to the fashion tee market, FesslerUSA serves a wide array
of designers, labels and specialty stores. The ability
to help customers effectively bring design concepts to
market is the cornerstone of the FesslerUSA strategy for
the 21st century.
